For Pope Leo and for his intention that all people will have reliable access to clean and safe water.
We pray to the Lord.
For Bishop Christian and the Bishops of Canada as they meet this week for their plenary session.
We pray to the Lord.
For our children and grandchildren who have left home to study or to find employment that they will rely on the faith and lessons they received in their homes from their family.
We pray to the Lord.
For the poor and for families challenged by rising prices for food and rent.
We pray to the Lord.
For people who are ill and in need of our prayers and for families living with the consequences of addiction and mental illness.
We pray to the Lord.
For those who have died: Bruce Munroe, Terry Furlong, Fred Horgan, Nancy Mills; and for people in mourning.
We pray to the Lord.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to stop replenishing the votive candle stands at the back of the church. Children are being allowed to light candles unattended, which poses a serious risk to them and those around them. In the last few weeks a child nearly suffered a burn due to lack of supervision.
The other issue we are facing is that votive candles cost the parish a substantial amount of money every year. However, most candles being lit at the back of the church are not being paid for. We recently paid over $1,800 for candles and only brought in $1,000.
The candle stand at the front of the church will continue to be used. With safety in mind, children will only be permitted to light candles when accompanied by a parent.
We apologize to anyone inconvenienced by this change.
