Prayers Of The Faithful – December 13

For Pope Francis and Bishop Christian who constantly call us to faith in Christ and to embrace the hope that comes from faith.
We pray to the Lord.

For the Church throughout the world, especially where Christ’s brothers and sisters are persecuted, that this Advent will help them to see a sign of light amidst their darkness.
We pray to the Lord.

For our country as we try to break the back of the pandemic and allow people to be with those they love once again.
We pray to the Lord.

For people facing eviction and workers who have lost employment and for a helpful response from government.
We pray to the Lord.

For the health and safety of our children and grandchildren and that they learn to turn to God’s care in difficult times.
We pray to the Lord.

For each person experiencing illness and for those who are discouraged or in despair and for their caregivers and families.
We pray to the Lord.

For those who have died: Sister Marion Garneau, Joe Moore, Gerry Lawlor, Bobby Eldridge, Norman Burns, Bernie White, J. B. Achilles, Gloria Callaghan, that God will give them refreshment, light and peace.
We pray to the Lord.

Introduction – Prayers Of The Faithful

Pope Francis gave us an early Christmas gift last week. He proclaimed a year in honour and celebration of St. Joseph.  Canada claims Joseph as her Patron Saint and it is 150 years since he was named patron of the universal Church. But of all the titles and names by which his help is invoked, it is probably as Joseph the Worker that he is loved most among us.            

Making a living and providing for families was always hard work in our home province. People who harvested the bounty of the sea and the land and those employed in refining, manufacturing and transporting what the handiwork of our parents, grandparents and ancestors provided often worked too hard and paid dearly with loss of health or life. Inside the home it was no easier. Without modern conveniences and often with many children (some with chronic illness or conditions) strong, smart, selfless and resourceful women literally held it all together. How did they all do it?

With faith in God and openness to His providence they also looked to Joseph, provider and protector of his family. And like Joseph, in dreams they saw what might be and let go of fears and were reassured of God’s constant presence, grace, and help. During this special year we can all remember with gratitude and fond admiration those we loved. And we can let Joseph inspire us, too!

Christmas Flowers Deadline

Donations in memory of loved ones are being accepted to assist with our decorations during the Christmas season. Please place your offering in an envelope marked “flowers” together with the names of those who will be remembered during our Christmas Masses. Please include your own name and envelope number. This Sunday, December 13, is the last day that we are able to accept names.
